Kankaria Boating, Sabarmati River Cruise Stopped

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has issued a directive to halt boating and water sports at Kankaria Lake and river cruises on the Sabarmati River. This decision was prompted by a notification from the state home department, calling for a stop to all recreational activities on water bodies and rivers. This is in light of the Harni boat accident case currently being heard in the high court. The government must provide an update on actions taken in other cities at the next hearing on Thursday.

Boating in the lake and river cruises are not managed by the AMC.

AMC was asked by the city police commissioner to either provide details of the new contract with the contracting companies or cease the activity immediately. Under the new mandate, boating and other water sports activities would have to be supervised by a senior officer. If an accident occurs, the official would be held responsible.
